We restore hope, empower people and save lives through suicide awareness and crisis intervention services for those experiencing crisis in Arkansas.

Description:
In 1985, the Arkansas Crisis Center (formerly known as the Northwest Arkansas Crisis Intervention Center) started as an all-volunteer organization committed to listening to Arkansans in crisis 24 hours a day.

Today, our staff and volunteers continue in the footsteps of our founders to restore hope, empower people and save lives through suicide awareness and crisis intervention services for those experiencing crisis in Arkansas. Our goal is that everyone will have the help they need to prevail over crises and will use the experience to make positive changes in their lives.

The ACC plays a crucial role in linking residents in need with available community resources. It is our vision that, by 2013, ACC will be the recognized leader in suicide awareness and crisis intervention services throughout the state of Arkansas.

Arkansas Crisis Center 5 Overall Experience    Experience rating
Valuable

My experience as a social work intern at the Crisis Center has been extremeley valuable to me. I have learned how to empower people, restore hope, and save lives; I know that's the mission statement so that sounds cliche, but it's so true. The experience here has been incredible...there's nothing like going home some days knowing someone else is alive just because you took the time to listen to them and validate their feelings, help them realize that their life does have value and they do have strengths. The support I've had from the staff here has been incredible. The staff is dynamic and it's always interesting around here...never a dull moment! I'm so thankful to have had this opportunity and would recommend you to give it a shot and go through the volunteer training. This is a very meaningful opportunity that will change your life!

An unparalleled learning experience

I was an intern for the Arkansas Crisis Center for fall of 2012. I was trained as a Crisis Line Specialist to answer incoming calls, and after training felt I had the ability to handle a wide variety of issues. Support and supervision are strong and positive. The agency provided many opportunities including administrative, research, community outreach, and internal training. Many more opportunities are available if you have the time such as Crisis Intervention outreach and Suicide training. Working at the Crisis Center will give you the chance to work with people who are passionate about what they do. You will be confident using crisis intervention methods and leave feeling like you made a difference......and maybe you'll even save a life!
