What We Do

Razorback Food Recovery (RFR) is a student-led Volunteer Action Center (VAC) Signature Program that has worked to recover surplus food items and redistribute it to those in need within the Fayetteville Community and Northwest Arkansas region since February of 2014. We aim to address the issues of food waste and hunger within the Northwest Arkansas region.

During the 2021-2022 school year alone, we were able to recover about 7,600 pounds of food, the equivalent of 28,900 pounds of carbon dioxide. RFR aims to give back to its community while also understanding the role food waste plays in our environment.

Who We Serve

A strong partnership with Chartwells Dining Services allows RFR volunteers to recover and package unused food items from campus retail stores and dining hall locations across the University of Arkansas Campus. These items are then donated to various community partners as well as the VAC’s own Jane B. Gearhart Full Circle Food Pantry, which uses some recovered items to address food insecurity amongst students and staff.

Growing in Recovery

Razorback Food Recovery is looking to expand our operation into the community with local partnerships in order to combat the issue of food waste at a local level.

Want to get involved?

To get involved with Razorback Food Recovery, University of Arkansas students can serve on a weekly basis for shifts lasting either 1 or 1.5 hours. Volunteers assist in the recovery, packaging, and transportation of the recovered food items to our local partners while promoting our program through outreach and awareness of food waste on campus.
